ITPA Member Briefing – Future of the IPv6 Allocation Service

The ITPA Board invites members to attend an online briefing on the future of the ITPA IPv6 allocation service.

ITPA has been providing IPv6 allocations to members in support of IPv6 adoption and the professional Internet community. While this service continues to be highly valued by those who use it, costs have increased to a level that is becoming difficult for the Association to sustain under the current funding model.

No decisions have been made. Before considering any changes, the Board wishes to share the current situation, answer questions, and hear directly from members.

The session will be conducted in four parts:

1. Member Briefing

  • Overview of the current IPv6 allocation service.
  • Current utilisation and operating costs.
  • Why the Board is reviewing the sustainability of the service.
  • Possible options that could be considered.

2. Questions & Answers
Members will have the opportunity to ask questions about the information presented and seek clarification on any aspect of the service or the issues being considered.

3. Call for Volunteers
The Board is seeking members who are interested in helping develop options for the future of the service. Volunteers will be invited to participate in a small working group over following weeks to examine technical, financial and operational alternatives and provide recommendations to the Board for any change in the model (along with next steps to implement).

4. Member Round Table
An open discussion where members can share their views, experiences and suggestions. This is an opportunity for all perspectives to be input to the working group.

Following the meeting and outcome of the working group, the Board will consider the recommendations and  individual submissions before determining next steps and any timeline for implementation of changes (if any).
