1025 bogus .au domain names to be deleted

After an investigation into bogus registration of .au domain names, auDA has told an accredited registrar to delete 1025 bous .au domain names which have been registered to overseas organisations not eligible to register domain names in the .au namespace.

In a statement issued on 7th October 2016, auDA noted that following an audit of the .au namespace (itself first raised in an auDA statement on the 20th of September, 2016), 1025 domain names had been identified as having been inappropriately registered, and had ordered one of its accredited registrars to delete those domain names.

auDA CEO Cameron Boardman was quoted as saying: "The swift work of our team and the good relationships we have built with our Registrars, mean that these matters can be dealt with quickly and with the least possible negative impact on the .au domain space. We value the security and trust consumers put in .au and work hard to ensure we maintain that. Work continues in this current unauthorised business name audit and we will report back in full, once the process is complete."
